Harvest Roll is Slow Roll Buffalo's annual curated ride, experience and fundraiser dedicated to exploring and supporting urban farms and food systems in Western New York. Join us for our fourth annual Harvest Roll on Saturday, September 21, 2024, 1:00 - 4:00 PM, The Nickel Plate 1500 Clinton Street, Buffalo, NY, 14206.
The Nickel Plate will open at 11am. We will ride at 1pm for an 18 mile SQUAD-led ride with three stops at local urban farms for produce samples and stories, followed by an afterparty including food, refreshments, revelry and a vendor market. Your ticket also includes limited edition swag, seeds and more!
First we venture to 5 Loaves Farm on the City’s West Side which is more than an urban farm - it's a living classroom teaching vital skills and life lessons through the practice of farming. 5 Loaves Farm hosts weekly gatherings where staff and volunteers work together on the farm, fostering connections and working together to impact the world around us. The bounty of this work is shared with the community via farm shares, a neighborhood farm stand, attendance at farmers market, and local schools.
Second we venture to Brewster Street Farms, an urban farm to feed a community. Brewster Street Farm is a program of Journey’s End Refugee Services providing New Americans with adaptive farming and marketing skills. For many participants, farming is a familiar livelihood that offers a measure of self-determination and self-sufficiency, healthy food for their families, extra income, and a context for settling into new communities. Produce grown at the farm is sold weekly at the Tri-Main Center.
Third we venture to Buffalo Go Green (BGG), a non-profit organization that promotes agriculture and wellness on Buffalo's East side. BGG operates two urban raised bed and hoop house farms, as well as hydroponic container farms. Their mission is to "grow the neighborhood" by working at the intersection of food justice, food systems, and food as medicine, all while providing the healthiest food options possible. BGG sells at local farmers markets, has a corporate wellness division where it embeds its services into local companies and universities, and programming for elementary and high school students where it teaches nutrition education and farming. BGG is supplied by Urban Fruits & Veggies, an urban farm located in the City.
All ticket-holders will receive samples of the harvest from 5 Loaves Farm and BGG, plus insight and information from the fine folks running these farms. Additionally, The Blend Bars and Libby’s Lemonade will be providing snacks and refreshments along the way.
18 miles later back at The Nickel Plate, we’ll enjoy an afterparty at Western New York's newest location to sip, savor, and shop. Including food and beverage from their extensive kitchen and vendor market — all located inside the historic Niagara Frontier Food Terminal.
This is event is presented and made possible by the generous support of the Food Policy Council of Buffalo & Erie County.
Ticket To Roll events are fundraising rides that provide additional opportunities to increase Slow Roll Buffalo's capacity and community impact. These events are a major differentiation from our "free for all" Monday Night Community rides. Each has a unique theme, celebrating a wide range of things such as WNY urban farms, Buffalo's cannabis culture, and Halloween. Ticket to Roll events have limited capacity and include food, drink, and a curated ride experience.
