Slow Roll! Another first time partner venue this week, and we're excited to roll out of West Side Bazaar along an 8 mile ride, returning for a what promises to be an afterparty in their parking lot. Our Julie's-on-the-Spot Map identifies the usual pre and post ride suspects: Bert Bikes SAG, bike racks, beer & wine, registration and information tables (including our friends from Peace Of The City), and of course amazing food from the WSB vendors - who will also be setting up outside in the lot for us on what looks to be a fabulous night this coming Monday. Meet at 530pm, ride at 630pm.

Reprising some old posts from my first Slow Rolls, in honor of everyone's first times!        From May, 2015. The Slow Roll Buffalo is a blend of all of my bicycle fears. Crowds, rough neighborhoods, urban debris, broken glass, fear of crashing into 35 strangers, being sheep herded by drill sergeants. 400+ bicycle riders ride ten miles through the city. Ten miles anywhere in this city means some degree of traffic through a mix of blighted to enlightened neighborhoods. The Hydraulics, Seneca Babcock, Bailey Clinton, Kaisertown, South Buffalo, The Valley. You can expect a sense of danger, some fear of flowing from a right lane to a left turn onto a major intersection just after rush hour, when the Monday night bars are just warming up. What you don’t expect are the locals in each neighborhood rushing to their front yards, taking pics and videos, tooting their car horns, clapping. You don’t expect kids running alongside cheering, high – fiving you in the park, drivers stopped at blocked intersections smiling instead of cursing. You don’t expect that you can ride along just fine at 8 – 10 miles an hour, with hundreds of riders, without crashing. You don’t expect how glorious these neighborhoods of good [...]

Slow Roll Buffalo's next free community bike ride crosses the southern city line on invitation from the City of Lackawanna Fire Department! Meeting at Lackawanna Fire Station #3 (2990 South Park Avenue) and rolling at 6:30pm sharp, most of the next 10-mile route will roll through the City of Buffalo's South District, guided by our Independent Health Slow Roll Squad and a Buffalo Police Department motorcade and including major streets of South Park, Seneca and McKinley Parkway as well as residential neighborhoods in both South Buffalo and Lackawanna. We'll return for an afterparty outside the firehouse with food trucks, drinks, and live music by the Party Squad! Slow Roll is free and open to all ages and skill levels - safety first, no tricks or training wheels. One-time 2016 season registration is at www.slowrollbuffalo.org or onsite. Founded in Detroit Bike City, Slow Roll is a group bicycle ride that meets every Monday night and has expanded into a global network of community rides. Each week we meet at different venues and take a unique route of about 10 miles; our slow pace keeps the group safe and gives riders a unique perspective of our great city and its neighborhoods.
