Happy Monday, Slow Rollers, perfect day for a free and inclusive community bike ride! Tonight’s Dawn McCarley Memorial Ride meets at Mulberry and Carlton Streets in the Fruit Belt, on the corner where Dawn lived – ride starts at 6:30pm sharp and returns for a block party.

“This ride honors one of our most spirited, kind-hearted, and committed riders, Dawn McCarley. Dawn’s passion for riding motivated her participation in events such as Ride for Roswell every year and to join the Slow Roll crew to ride for the spirit of Buffalo. Dawn made every Slow Roll event an opportunity to meet new people and to celebrate the ride as though it were the last. We honor our fellow rider, Dawn, this Monday as a celebration of a beautiful person who left us all too soon.” – Dawn’s husband and fellow squad member Earl McCarley.

Last year we built and installed a little lending library on Mulberry in Dawn’s memory; two of our six libraries are along tonight’s route, including another on Virginia Street – feel free to give or take a book at either!

As with every first Monday of the month, we’ll have another pre-ride giveaway from our presenting partner Independent Health – tonight brings free drawstring backpacks, while supplies last.

This Monday’s 10-mile roundtrip route with two inclines includes stops in the Lower West Side and Fruit Belt; neighborhoods on this route include Allentown, downtown, and MLK Park along major roads Michigan, Utica, Main, Pearl, Ellicott, Best and Genesee.

Buffalocal afterparty on Mulberry will include fellowship; food from Imperial Pizza, McCarley’s Kitchen, Fat Bob’s Smokehouse, Maria’s Bene Cibo, Sweet Lisa’s and Tropical Treats; drinks from Buffalocal brews, Chateau Buffalo wines, Snowy Owl Kombucha, Libby’s Lemonade Stand, Ashker’s Juice Bar and pop; and music from Preach Freedom and friends.

One-time annual ride registration here online or onsite.

To those driving to our event – there’s plenty of car parking in the Buffalo Niagara Medical Campus lot, a half-mile from Mulberry and Carlton Streets. Be a good neighbor and respect surrounding residents by refraining from parking on residential streets.

All riders be sure to check your ABCs – Air-Brakes-Chain – and see our SAG crew (Support and Gear) for any pre-ride basic maintenance.
