Today we return to Clarence for a Bike Stampede hosted by Discover Main Street and the new West Shore Brewing Company, 10995 Main Street, ride starting at 3pm and afterparty with live music, BBQ and new brew releases – many of us are riding out from Buffalo, leaving from the Bailey Fights Flight Mural Celebration at 1pm.
Free and open to all ages and skill levels like Slow Roll Mondays, our Saturday Bike Stampedes are self-supported, and slightly faster and longer than a standard Slow Roll, following traffic laws – today’s route is 13 miles and includes inclines, see here for the map.
Our invitation back to Clarence is for more than just a good time – as The Clarence Bee reported in previewing the Bike Stampede, “it’s no secret that the town has been engaged in a full-scale redesign of its Main Street corridor, one that town officials and local business groups hope will create a more pedestrian-friendly density that facilitates greener streetscapes and discourages a heavy use of automobiles.
“Part of the town’s Vision: Main Street plan, which provides a variety of recommendations related to streetscape, zoning, lane reconfigurations and pedestrian amenities, includes bike lanes from one end of the town to the other. Slow Roll events such as the one that will ride through Clarence on Saturday, are a way to show off the overwhelming public support for such initiatives, says [Discover Main Street organizer Noel] Dill.
“’We think that biking is a big part of being able to see Main Street on a more intimate level, and events like this one will help showcase our town to a brand new audience,’” said Dill.
Discover Main Street penned its own preview including info on the route and afterparty, check it out and trek to Clarence with us!
